That 70's Style - A Mashup!

I am so excited about these photos and collaberation with the Lovely Chelsea Price!  Chelsea has been blogging for a couple of years and has been a fashion assistant, so I felt pretty cool working with her.  You can see her blog here.

Chelsea and I decided to take a look that is really popular right now, and see how we could dress it two different ways.  And in case you hadn't heard or seen - 70's style is coming back!  That's right . . . think bell bottom / flare jeans, fringe purses and jackets, a kind of bohemian look.

Chelsea and I decided to both wear flare jeans and a fringe purse.  That was it!  We didn't decide on anything else.  We went our seperate ways, picked our outfits, and came back together to shoot photos.  And here is what we came up with:

Here are my outfit details.

ELIZABETH -
Jeans
- are Gap's new flare jeans - they were very long on me, so I wore
Shoes - my Tom wedge booties.
T-shirt - This is my absolute new favorite, it feels like a soft cotton ball.  It's from Madewell, and I will probably get a few more in different colors, because I LOVE it.  I chose to wear this t-shirt because the jeans are high-waisted, and I don't love that look on me.  So I am covering it up with loose and flowy tops.
Sweater - Old Navy, last season.  If you find a fun top like this, grab it and hold onto it.  You can wear it for multiple seasons!
Purse -  is from Target.  They have a bunch of fun fringe purses to choose from!
Neckalce -  is from Forever 21. And can I just say how excited I was to see the price tag on this?  It was under $5.00!

So if you're feeling that 70's vibe, try this tyle out!  And share your photos on instagram (lovelythingsliz is my instagram name).  I love to see what outfits y'all come up with!

Amanda's Closet

I've shared with you about the FALL In Love With Your Closet Challenge here.  And to kick things off, I wanted to show you Amanda's clothes, the first closet I worked with.  I hope as you look, you can get ideas for your own clothes!  And maybe you will be one of the lucky ones who's closet I will come and help make outfits with!

To start off, let's see what looks we made with Amanda's favorite Target t-shirt:

Flare jeans with a casual t-shirt,  The shirt is tucked in the front with a statement necklace.  A chunky necklace adds SO much to a simple t-shirt!

Same shirt with skinny jeans and booties.  The necklace is not as chunky, but still adds a great touch, making it more than "just a t-shirt".

Same outfit as above, just adding a flannel shirt around the waist.  Note: the flannel shirt is buttoned up before tying around the waist, the neckline not showing in the rear. See:

This brings us to the FLANNEL SHIRT, and the many ways to wear it.  NOTICE: the following outfits all have the same t-shirt Amanda was already wearing.

Amanda's wearing skinny jeans with the flannel shirt left open, the sleeves rolled slightly (a favorite look of mine for button-up shirts), and a long, simple necklace.

The only difference here is that the flannel shirt is tied together at the front.  Notice that the t-shirt is still tucked in.

Same look as the first open flannel shirt look, but now it is more casual with the tennis shoes.  These are some of my favorite!  Converse slip-ons.  LOVE them!

I love this look – un-tucking the t-shirt (to cover up the rear, and just to look good in general!), putting on leggings, and wearing flats.  The shirt is tied in the front and sleeves are slightly rolled.

Change flats for boots to get a little bit dressier look.

In case you wonder how this looks from behind.  And don't pretend you weren't wondering how you would look from behind in leggings!  ;-)  I would HIGHLY recommend a t-shirt that is a bit long, like this one.

Enter: White cami! Add a jean chambray shirt and utility jacket.  You could also keep t-shirt on and flannel with the utility jacket.  SO MANY OPTIONS!

 Booties and black vest.

Polka dot sweater, from WAL-MART, what?!

Notice the necklace is outside the collar.  Take a look here . . .

And here.

Another Wal-Mart sweater, change necklace and put jean jacket on.

Such a versatile piece, this white button-up shirt.  Worn here with flare jeans, a belt, and cardigan.  Notice the sleeves are pulled longer than the cardigan and rolled up.

Full body shot.  Worn with cowboy boots. (But could be worn with so many different shoes!)

Button the cardigan.

White shirt unbuttoned a few buttons with a necklace.

A completely different look just because of a new necklace.

Gold belt, wedge shoes, flare jeans.  Yes, flare jeans and wedges CAN go together!  Just make sure the length on the jeans is long enough that it still touches or almost touches the ground on your heel when wearing the wedges.

Same outfit, just different dress shirt.

How rolled sleeves look - close up.

Same jeans and wedges with a t-shirt, simple long necklace, and a jacket.

Jacket sleeves turned up.

Similar jacket, different color, worn with jeans (could be leggings) and converse for a fun, casual look. T-shirt un-tucked in the back.

Dress up the jacket with boots.

There you have it!  Amanda and I had SO MUCH FUN mixing and matching clothes.  And really, with just these clothes there are so many other ways to mix and match that we could go on and on.  But this can get your wheels turning.  Now go to your closet and see what you can come up with!  Don't forget to share your photos on Instagram with the hashtag #fallinlovewithmyclosetchallenge for your chance to win a $50.00 gift card AND a chance to have me come help you make outfits with your clothes and be featured on the blog!

Have you heard about Sonnet James?

If you haven't heard of these dresses, I will accept your gratitude in advance.  Sonnet James's dresses are THE BEST!  And I'm not saying that in a Chris Harrison, "This is the MOST DRAMATIC SEASON EVER," kind of way.  (Bachelor TV show talk).  But here's the secret: you feel like you are in your PJ's all day, but you look stunning.  Who can say no to that?  I LOVED when my package came.  It kept my kids happy all morning.  How could they not be with the cute and yummy things inside?  So go.  As fast as you can.  And check out their stuff!  (Here's a photo of what comes along with the dress).

Can I say this? I love fashion . . .

I love fashion.  There.  I said it.  It's something I have loved yet felt embarrassed about for a while.  It can seem unimportant or vain.  But loving fashion doesn't mean it is the most important thing to me.  I just find it really fun!

Why am I sharing this with you?  Because I am going to start posting outfit of the day photos – of myself.  And in case you wonder, "Why is Elizabeth posting so many selfies?"  They are actually selfies with a purpose.  A purpose to share outfits I've had a fun time putting together, a purpose to spark outfit ideas for others, and maybe to ignite someone else's creativity.

I am the first to acknowledge I'm not a model, nor do I want to be one.  I'm no photographer, either.  (In fact, my 4 year old took some outfit photos for me.)  But it's a fun outlet.

So here is my first outfit photo.  Bonus points if you've read the classic literature I'm reading.

About this outfit:
The dress is from Boden.  Their clothes are some of my favorite!
Take a close look at my earings, you will see these from Stella and Dot.  I wear them almost every day!
